Ethos, pathos, and logos

Ethos, pathos, and logos are super useful tools, especially if you want to get better at persuasion, writing, or even just understanding how people make arguments. Here’s a simple breakdown: Ethos = Credibility It's about convincing your audience that you are trustworthy or an authority. Example: “I've been a dentist for 20 years — trust me when I say this toothpaste works.” Pathos = Emotion It's about stirring your audience's feelings — fear, joy, anger, sadness — to persuade them. Example: “Imagine the pain your child feels with every cavity because you didn't choose the right toothpaste.” Logos = Logic and Reason It's about using facts, data, or logical arguments. Example: “Clinical studies show that this toothpaste reduces cavities by 60% within six months.” Together, they’re like a full toolkit: Ethos makes people trust you. Pathos makes people feel something. Logos makes people think logically.

Securing the Software Supply Chain: A Collective Responsibility for Lasting Resilience

Summary In the video “Securing the Software Supply Chain: A Collective Responsibility for Lasting Resilience,” Steve Springette, a director of product security at ServiceNow, discusses the complexities and challenges surrounding the software supply chain. He emphasizes the importance of securing software from development to delivery, highlighting that the software supply chain is not a linear process but a complex web of interconnected components. Springette raises significant concerns regarding the vulnerabilities present in software, especially those stemming from open-source components, and urges developers and organizations to take responsibility for ensuring the security and integrity of their software. He outlines the critical role that various standards, models, and community practices play in navigating these challenges. Specifically, he introduces frameworks like the Software Component Verification Standard (SCVS) and the Salsa framework, which help organizations measure and i...

women’s artistic gymnastics

One of the most popular forms of gymnastics, women’s artistic gymnastics comprises feats of strength, balance, flexibility, air sense and grace. The four events that female artistic gymnasts compete in include: Vault  The vault is a test of strength and athletic ability. A gymnast sprints down a 25 metre runway and jumps onto a springboard, launching herself into the air to land momentarily upside down on a vaulting table, only to spring back off into a series of flipping and twisting movements before landing on her feet. A novice gymnast learns to vault by practising running, jumping, and hurdling herself onto a springboard. Slowly, the gymnast will then progress from these beginner drills to more difficult vaults. Uneven bars  The uneven bars demand exceptional upper-body strength and an aggressive approach. Gymnasts perform a routine that incorporates swings, handstands, release moves, and flipping or twisting moves. The entire routine should flow from one movement t...

Forget and forgotten

Some good habits, some skills, we choose to let go. We possessed them before but now we think it is not longer relevant.  What is the one thing that you think you are doing great and would like to retain it? What is the one thing you wish to start? What is the toxic thing that you want to stop?  Time for self reflection.

Comfortable + Learning

Image
Learning comfortably. Is there such scenario?  Let say a scenario, A hardcore window 10 user is choosing a new laptop. Should he get a laptop with window 11 or a mac?  Since he is so comfortable with window 10, he will be likely more comfortable with window 11. He know the basic, the close window is still on the top right. Comfortable is a feeling. Feeling of comfortable and uncomfortable will fade. Or he can choose a Mac, learn new trick, open his eyes but suffer being in a state of unproductivity and uncomfortable zone for a while. But what if the Mac is really not for him.. ? How about..  A doctor get really comfortable in his daily life. He know his job scope well and really excel in his work. Now to get out of the comfort zone, he want to try to be a chef. Big change! For sure, it will be super uncomfortable but yet a opportunity for him to learn.  Then..  One live a good comfortable life staying good house, driving good car. Of course, he is very comfortab...
